Sandalwood is a base note essential oil and blends well with bergamot, geranium, ginger, grapefruit, jasmine, lavender, neroli, palmarosa, patchouli, petitgrain, rose, and rosewood. It is made through steam distillation of the heartwood and roots of mature trees, dried and powdered. Indian Sandalwood is in short supply, and now all cultivation, harvesting, and supply is heavily regulated by the government, hence it is necessarily expensive.
