Cypress Pure Essential Oil (Cupressus sempervirens)

Cypress essential oil has decongestant, purifying and drying properties so is excellent for bronchitis, persistent cough, asthma, and excessive sweating. It stimulates secretions and balances hormone function, and as such is good for irregular periods, pmt, menopause, detoxifying the liver and pancreas, and prostate problems. Cypress essential oil has a clear woody spicy aroma.

Aromatherapy Uses

Nervous: balancing, tonic, irritability.
Skin: broken capillaries, cellulite, haemorrhoids, sweaty feet.
Digestive: detoxifying liver and pancreas.
Respiratory: bronchitis, asthma, pleurisy, TB, persistent cough.
Muscular-skeletal: rheumatism.
Endocrine/Reproductive: irregular periods, painful periods, menopause, pmt, combats excesses.
Urinary: decongestant, diuretic, prostate problems.

Cypress is a base note essential oil and blends well with bergamot, cedarwood, chamomile, clary sage, juniper, lavender, lemon, mandarin, marjoram, orange, pine, and sandalwood. It is made through steam distillation of the needles and twigs.

Cypress was highly valued as a medicine and incense by ancient civilisations and is still used as a purification incense by Tibetans. The tree was worshiped and statues of the gods carved out of it. Sempervirens means ‘always alive’ (evergreen) in latin.
